The Fraser 4-Ply Cashmere Relaxed Crewneck
A Shetland crew, softly spoken.
The Fraser takes its cue from the traditional Shetland crew, a sweater that has served the weekend well for generations. We kept the shape and chose a different fiber: 100% Todd & Duncan Grade A cashmere, spun in Kinross and knitted in Hawick, Scotland. The character is familiar. The feel is something else.
It is knitted at 8 gauge and a touch looser than usual, which gives the 4-ply yarn room to loft. That makes it lighter than it looks and warmer than you'd expect. A ribbed crewneck, cuffs and hem finish it. It sees no reason to say more.
Construction
- 100% Grade A cashmere
- 4-ply (two ends of 2-ply yarn), 8 gauge
- Todd & Duncan yarn, spun in Kinross, Scotland
- Fiber: approximately 15.5 microns / 35 mm staple
- Knitted in Hawick, Scotland
- Slightly open knit for a lighter, loftier fabric
- Ribbed crewneck, cuffs and hem
Why a Looser Knit Matters
Gauge is the number of needles per inch on the knitting machine. Our Douglas is knitted at 12 gauge: smooth and close, made to sit neatly under a jacket. The Fraser drops to 8 gauge with a relaxed tension, so each stitch has a little more room. The cashmere fills that space and traps air, which means the warmth comes from loft, not bulk.
The 4-ply yarn gives it body, and Todd & Duncan's 35 mm staple keeps an open knit strong and less prone to pilling. Learn more about how ply and gauge shape a finished sweater.
Fit
Easy and relaxed, made for comfort rather than for tailoring. Our men's knitwear runs generous, so if you are between sizes, take the smaller.
