Cashmere Care
All of our Billie Todd products are made in Scotland using the finest traditional techniques.
All fine knitwear needs some regular tender, loving care. A regular clean brings up the fibers, enhances the color and helps reduce pilling.
When purchased, wear your new Billie sweater two or three times, and then wash or dry-clean it. This will help to settle the fibers and decrease pilling. Doing so regularly in the future will also reduce pilling over time.
Hand or machine washing is safest method. If you choose to machine wash, make sure it’s on the lowest temperature setting and the gentlest cycle. It is best to turn the item inside out first. If necessary, after washing remove excess water by rolling up and squeezing. Then lay flat on a towel to dry.
Don’t put in the dryer!!
4 Cashmere Goats = 1 Sweater
"It takes a lot of yarn to make one beautiful cashmere garment. Each goat typically produces just 150 g of fibers, and it takes approximately 4 adult-sized goats to make one 100% cashmere sweater. Part of what makes cashmere so exclusive is how elusive acquiring the fiber can be... it is only harvested from goats once a year!" Cashmere 101
A little bit about pilling
Sweater pilling is a natural occurrence in cashmere and is usually caused by friction. A seat belt or a bag rubbing against your side.
Persistent pilling happens when lower quality manufacturers use short fibers. A Billie Todd cashmere sweater will initially pill minimally and after several washes will wear in and not pill much at all. After every clean the sweater fibers will revitalize and look new again.
We only use luxury cashmere yarn spun by Todd and Duncan in Scotland. The fibers we use are longer which means a much stronger cashmere garment that will last a long time.
