The Gregor 4-Ply Cashmere Cable Knit Crewneck
The fisherman sweater, rebuilt in Scottish cashmere.
Inspired by the Aran sweaters once worn by the fishermen of the Aran Islands, and by the way Steve McQueen wore his, the Gregor keeps the rugged character of a classic cable knit and gives it an entirely different hand.
It is knitted in Hawick, Scotland from 100% Todd & Duncan Grade A cashmere, spun in Kinross. The 4-ply, 5-gauge knit gives the cables real depth and warmth, while the fine, long-staple fiber keeps it remarkably soft for a sweater this hearty.
Fully fashioned shoulders and set-in sleeves keep the shape trim rather than boxy, and a 1x1 rib finishes the collar, cuffs and hem. Warm enough to wear on its own, trim enough to fit under a coat.

Why Cable Knitting Matters
Crossing stitches pull the knit inward, producing a denser, more textured fabric than a plain-knit sweater of the same ply. That is why cable knits have long been the cold-weather choice in Scottish knitwear.
Combined with 4-ply yarn and a 5-gauge knit, the cables give the Gregor real warmth and a sweater that holds its shape for years. Read more about what Grade A cashmere means, and how ply and gauge shape a finished sweater.
Fit
Trim through the body, with a defined shoulder from the set-in sleeves. Wear it over a T-shirt or a shirt, or under a heavier coat when it really turns cold. If you are between sizes, the models below are a useful guide.

A LUXURY FABRIC THAT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE
Todd & Duncan Scottish Cashmere Yarn
4-ply Grade-A Todd & Duncan cashmere, 15.5 microns at 35mm staple, spun in Kinross with Loch Leven water.
Four-ply means four individual strands of yarn twisted together before knitting, giving the density needed to hold a cable pattern without it collapsing flat.
Staple length matters here too: the longer the strand, the stronger and more pill-resistant the finished yarn, which is what lets a cable knit keep its shape wash after wash.
