The Ross 4-Ply Lambswool Cable Knit Crewneck
A proper Aran, for proper weather.
The Ross is an all-over cable crewneck in the tradition of the Aran fisherman sweater, knitted in Hawick, Scotland from Geelong lambswool. If our cashmere Gregor is the softer side of the family, the Ross is the practical one: comfortable on a wet walk, unbothered by the back seat of the car and ready again the next morning.
Geelong is a fine grade of lambswool, soft against the skin but with the natural resilience that makes wool a working fiber. Two ends of 2-ply yarn are knitted together into a dense, textured cable fabric. Fully fashioned shoulders keep the shape trim rather than boxy, and a ribbed crewneck, cuffs and hem finish it.

Why Lambswool Matters
Lambswool comes from a sheep's first shearing, which makes it finer and softer than wool from older sheep. It keeps all of wool's practical strengths: it stays warm when damp, resists odor and has a natural spring that helps the cables hold their shape. Cashmere is softer; lambswool is more forgiving. For an everyday outdoor sweater, that is a sensible trade.
The cables add to it. Every crossed cable draws the fabric in on itself, so an all-over cable knit is thicker and warmer than a plain knit from the same yarn. Read more about how ply and gauge shape a finished sweater.
Fit
Trim through the body with a defined shoulder. Room for a shirt underneath, neat enough to sit under a waxed jacket or overcoat. Our men's knitwear runs generous, so if you are between sizes, take the smaller.
As Worn
Damian (pictured) is 5'10" and wears a size Small. He wears a 40R jacket, with a 15½" collar and 32" sleeve.
Best For
Autumn and winter outdoors, long weekends away and days that ask a lot of a sweater. Wear it with dark denim and well-worn boots.

A LUXURY FABRIC THAT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE
Geelong Lambswool Yarn
Lambswool comes from a sheep's first shearing, making it finer and softer than wool from older sheep. It stays warm even when damp, breathes easily, and has a natural spring that helps every cable hold its shape.
The Ross is knitted from 4-ply Geelong lambswool into an all-over Aran cable. Each crossed cable draws the fabric in on itself, giving a dense, textured knit that's warmer than a plain knit from the same yarn and lasts a lifetime with proper care.
