The James 6-Ply Lambswool Shawl Cardigan
So warm, yet so cool
Beloved by ancient mariners for its protection against the elements and by style-making movie stars (hello, Steve McQueen!) for its cool factor. Equal parts coat and sweater, this cardigan is made with a generous 2.5 pounds of the world’s softest lambswool.
The dramatic, rounded shawl collar creates a soft cushion around the neck that can be turned up to provide a buffer against the wind. Elongated cuffs can be neatly folded back for a shorter sleeve length, while it's a slightly roomier fit allows for easy movement and layering.
Without being overly mannered it has manners, elevated but not off putting. Just pared down to the most gorgeous, elemental form and function. Designed for durability, warmth, and timeless style, it’s one you’ll reach for season after season.

A LUXURY FABRIC THAT LIVES UP TO THE HYPE
Todd & Duncan Scottish Cashmere Yarn
Todd & Duncan Super Fine Lambswool, at 18.5 microns, processed in Kinross using Loch Leven water.
Todd & Duncan selects only the first fleece taken from a lamb, shorn once before the fibre coarsens with age, then spins it using the same water and techniques honed on their cashmere lines, which is why this lambswool carries a softness most lambswool doesn't reach.
Six-ply means six strands of yarn twisted together, giving the yarn real structural weight and body, weight that a lighter ply couldn't hold.
At 2.5 pounds, this is one of the most substantial pieces in our range.

OVER 200 YEARS OF HISTORY
Built by experience for all life’s experiences
Knitted in Hawick, where our craftsmen shape the shawl collar by hand so it turns up against wind without looking forced, the same demanding technique used on our heaviest cashmere pieces.
Elongated cuffs offer a shorter sleeve, a detail that takes real skill to get right on a design this substantial.
Two centuries of Scottish knitwear craft sit behind this kind of construction, the piece for when a coat is too much.
